The Workers’ Central Union of Cuba, the National Unions, and the ANIR, in ongoing solidarity with the people and Government of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, denounce the new and dangerous imperialist aggression that seeks to subdue the sovereignty and independence of that country, as well as seize its vast resources.

The Monroe Doctrine of the Trump era is now manifesting through the deployment of ships, aircraft, and thousands of military personnel in the Caribbean Sea, directly targeting the homeland of Bolívar and Chávez, along with attempts to criminalize its constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro Moros.

The pretext is once again outrageous: to “protect” the national security of the United States from the alleged threat of a drug cartel—fabricated by the manipulative propaganda machinery of the empire to justify its intentions of intervening in the countries of our America, as it has done throughout history.

The Cuban labor movement condemns these new demonstrations of imperial force for lacking any basis and being yet another example of Yankee arrogance. It also calls upon Venezuelan unions and those across our continent to support the legitimate government of Venezuela in these crucial times for that nation.

We express our support for the words of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who stated: “We are called to confront the threats looming not only over a group of our countries, such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, and also Cuba—recently turned into preferred targets of the blockade and unilateral coercive economic measures by the Government of the United States—but also over all peoples determined to choose their own destiny.”

In the current scenario, the words of our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz remain fully relevant: “We must look to what unites us, not to what may divide us, in this difficult and dangerous juncture.”
