(Bagnolet, July 17, 2025) La Vía Campesina urgently calls on all governments around the world, especially progressive governments and those in the Global South, to act firmly and in a coordinated manner to end the apartheid and colonization imposed by the Israeli occupation regime. These governments have a historical and moral responsibility to guarantee a dignified future for the Palestinian people and to demand justice for the crimes against humanity that have been committed.
In this context, the meeting of Friends of The Hague (FOTHG) in Colombia, to be held from July 15 to 17 in Bogotá, represents a political event of great importance for international solidarity with Palestine. This space reinforces the coordination between social, peasant, human rights organizations, and popular movements of the Global South that demand justice and an immediate end to the ongoing genocide.
As part of the organizations that make up FOTHG, La Vía Campesina, as an international movement that brings together more than 200 million peasants, rural workers, and landless people, denounces the systematic use of hunger, siege, and destruction of food systems as tools of war and control against 2.3 million Palestinians as an atrocious crime against humanity. The Israeli colonial authorities have blocked access to seeds, destroyed water infrastructure, attacked fishermen and farmers, and curtailed the right to land and life. These actions are not isolated incidents, but part of a deliberate strategy to redesign the demographic and economic future of Gaza, consolidating absolute control and political submission. The catastrophe in Gaza and the West Bank cannot be understood solely as a humanitarian crisis: it is structural genocide, through the planned use of hunger as a tool of political and demographic control.
La Vía Campesina welcomes and supports this initiative, which seeks to strengthen global pressure to bring the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation regime to justice and guarantee the Palestinian people’s right to live with dignity, sovereignty, and freedom.
We also strongly call on the international community to impose effective sanctions against Israel, including the severing of diplomatic relations, a ban on all trade, especially the cessation of arms trade, the suspension of cooperation agreements, and total economic withdrawal. It is imperative to immediately halt the colonization and expansion of settlements in the West Bank, as well as to guarantee respect for Palestinian territorial integrity and autonomy.
We call on more movements, organizations, and peoples to actively join this process, to sustain international condemnation, and to continue expanding solidarity networks.
Free Palestine, from the river to the sea! End the genocide!
